More likely someone patched the CVS source and built an executable.
Check your CVS repository and see if somebody kept a version of CVS
there.  Next, I would say that SOMEONE has to know where that code
went.  Finding them and asking where it is is probably second best.  If
it hasn't been deleted and you can't find the changes in patch form, you
may be able to create a patch from the old, altered version and whatever
version of the source it was created from and apply it to the new
version.  Note that when I say patch, it would probably be easier to do
all of this using CVS commands, but patch and diff should suffice in a
pinch.
