I didn't post this to the list - sorry... hopefully, this helps.

I am not familiar with Mac CVS 3.2 beta 8. You will need to get answers

I haven't used the GUI clients much, but since the client you're
attempting to use is a beta - you might also try the stable release
(3.1) for OSX.

If you're using CVS over SSH, this may also be an issue with OSX 10.2.3
- there have been several SSH updates since then - we're up to OSX
10.2.8 now. Also check the logs - both
* /var/log/ => system.log - see if there's anything there that might
indicate a problem
* also check the crash logs - /Users/Library/Logs/CrashReporter to see
if there's anything useful there
As I recall, MacOS X comes with a fairly old version of cvs (version
1.10 right?). However, if you have the development tools installed, you
may download the latest stable cvshome.org tarball and build it with no
problems on your system.
For the most current version, use the FINK distribution - it's current
stable release is 1.11.5-1. Works great - I'm even running it using the
ext method as a server for our clients - it's been rock solid.

If you would rather not configure and build it by hand, you might
trying
using fink ('fink install cvs') to get a cvshome 1.11.x version of cvs
(I am not sure what version of cvs fink is providing these days). You
can grab a copy of fink from fink.sourceforge.net where they also have
bootstrap instructions. (I don't think that www.versiontracker.com
tracks
the cvshome version of cvs for MacOS X boxes, but you could look there
for other cvs clients as well.
If you're interested in other GUI Mac CVS clients - as Mark mentioned,
check Version Tracker - there are several others.

hope this helps.
thx,
