Yes, it works just fine with a local repository. I'm not sure what's
going wrong, but I have a couple suggestions for troubleshooting:
1) Try creating a local repository and checking it out, just to see
if that works:
cvs -d /testrepo init
cvs -d /testrepo co CVSROOT
2) Do the checkout from your copied respository with the global -t
(trace) option and post the results.
