guile 1.6 problem building debian package of 1.7.16

I'm running Debian testing/unstable with kernel 2.4.20 (custom).

When trying debuild -B -d    (after debuild -B  gave the same error only 
sooner) I get:

ERROR: Please install required programs:  echo no guile-config 1.6 
(installed: )

See INSTALL.txt for more information on how to build LilyPond
Remove config.cache before rerunning ./configure
make: *** [build-stamp] Error 1
debuild: fatal error at line 456:
dpkg-buildpackage failed!

This seems to me to result from name changes between guile 1.4 and 1.6.  
Is there another fix or can I probably fix this by editing a script or 
makefile?
