At least with today's state. I have been thinking about this issue - and in
theory I think it could be possible to some extent; an editor could use a
primitive engine to do an initial guess of the layout, and internally run
lilypond now and then to adjust the layout to look better. It's not a pure
WYSIWYG, but it's a bit closer at least.
This stuff would be far far future though.
