Files of any size always compile slower on my Macs, too, but it's most noticeable on the really big scores. A number of folks on the list have said that they got blazing speed on their macs by building from source, which I've tried and failed to do b/c of problems getting/installing the dependencies from MacPorts and Fink. :(
Is it possible to publish the Leopard compiled for an Intel Mac without the gui?
If there were a build specifically for command-line Mac that ran as fast as the Linux version I would LOVE it! I never use the GUI anyway... I would even offer small bounty if necessary ($25?).
