Does it look deterministic when the error is in "Preprocessing graphical
objects...", i.e. does it happen every time?

In my case the error is always after the GLib errors which follow the "Drawing Systems" message.

(Except in the case of 2.23.6, which appears not to output progress messages - and gives a different error also after the GLib error

This is getting a bit tricky to understand without experimenting. Would
any of you both accept to give me a VNC access over your machine so I
can do my own tests without this email ping-pong?
