For your information, I have submitted a merge request to mention this change in LilyPond's Changes document (https://gitlab.com/lilypond/lilypond/-/merge_requests/1719).
Also, the red herring in init.ly is now tracked in https://gitlab.com/lilypond/lilypond/-/issues/6459
