Ok, here are some stats.

I grepped through my httpd logs since 1998-01-08

Users from Hosts Spiders (80 hosts)
    uwe/lout 1181 652 282
    mail-archives/lout 5006 1871 13050

Spider hits are hits from hosts that issued HEAD or GET for `/robots.txt'.
The number of spider hits doesn't really mean anything, of course. :-)

Number of hosts was calculated *without* taking transient DNS problems
into account (i.e. if host was logged both under its name and under
its IP it counts as two).

Mailing list has 192 addresses from 30 top level domains. Of those -
7 contain words `lout' or `list' and I suppose they are local expoders
or news gateways. There're also 27 addresses that were purged from
the list recently due to constant bounces.

Top level domains that has more than 5 subscribers.

First message in the list archive (at that time the list was
maintained by Rodrigo Vanegas at Brown University) has serial number
35 and is dated 28 Aug 1993. The last message in the Brown archive is
#241, dated 3 Jan 1995.

Then we have no archives for 2 months (but, as I recall, the traffic
was negligibly low, some 2 or 3 messages) and since 27 Feb 1995 the
list is hosted at St.Petersburg University. During these three years
651 message was posted to the list, this being 652'd (if no one had
posted something while I was writing this ;-) (you can learn the
sequence number of a message from the X-Mailing-List headline). This
gives us ~900 messages in ~5 years.

Does it make sense? ;-)
