How do I set header and footer width independently of body text width?

Hi,

I modified the book setup files to use a wide left margin to allow the use
of @LeftNote. However, I found that this also changed the width of the page
header and footer.

Is there any simple way to set the width of the header and footer
independently of the width of the body text?
