But you are of course right with your observation that one often has to type
'mtn pull && mtn update'. So what about having a --pull switch for update that
uses the default arguments of the last pull?

hg goes the other way. It has -u (--update) argument for pull. I rarely use it
but I think it is better to have -u for pull than -p for update. I
also believe that UI
convergence is a good thing :-)
