Follow-up Comment #1, bug #50561 (project octave): I fixed the problem in this cset (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/aed81b364903). The issue was that for the double case only, retval was being assigned the value of epsval for every iteration of the for loop.
