Update of bug #53510 (project octave):

              Depends on:                         => bugs #53520

Follow-up Comment #11:

I've added a dependency on bug #53520, as on Windows I cannot get Java 9
detected so I cannot even proceed fixing the underlying issues with this bug.
(Hopefully I added the dependency in the right way)

I found that the Java check for >= 1.6 dates back from before the octave-forge
switch to hg; the reason for the check is in the .svn history but I can't
access that anymore.

So on the one hand, being the reason for the check so ancient it looks safe to
throw it out, OTOH, taking into account bug #53520, this check may need to be
renewed.

So do we need to set status to "postponed" until bug #53520 has been fixed?

On Linux boxes you probably won't see any issues as the Java version Octave
was built with usually coincides with the Java version Octave is running with.
But that isn't guaranteed.
