Follow-up Comment #13, bug #53510 (project octave): Why do you keep mentioning Java 1.4? I'm not fully convinced that *any* Java version check is obsolete. Java 9 brings along some new things with it so that I want to be sure it will work for the io package. Let's first see if bug #53520 helps (Markus M supplied a fix), then I can test the rest of the io package stuff incl. the XML I/O in Windows.
