Follow-up Comment #13, bug #54235 (project octave): JFTR, when I was testing Octave 4.0 on Solaris, the only workaround for the 'id: illegal option' error was to patch configure so that it called 'gid -u' and 'gid -g', the Solaris 'id' program is not POSIX-compatible. But that is only needed for figuring out the 'tar' command for making 'dist', not related to this error.
