Update of bug #54235 (project octave):

Summary: configure sets FPICFLAG to '-KPIC' on Solaris even
with F77='gfortran' => problems building Octave on Solaris

Follow-up Comment #21:

Not bad results. The FPICFLAG is set correctly, and I see that g++ and gcc
are both at version 5.5.0 now.

Does it build?

If not, can you try configuring a minimal CLI-only version with

./configure --without-opengl --disable-qt --without-fltk --disable-java

This would be the first thing to get working before moving on to the GUI,
graphics, and external Java interface.
