Follow-up Comment #23, bug #48678 (project octave):

Yes, so confusing that I don't mind causing a little pain on the upgrade from
4.4 to 5.0 to sort this out.  Users can always choose not to upgrade if thy
have really severe requirements for continuity.  For the rest, it will be a
few warnings that require fixing and then we can be through with this issue.
