To clarify:
I cannot reproduce this problem with current octave (either
dev or stable). But I used to have some problems with
octave and some other graphical programs running through ssh forwarding. At
the moment I still have an issue with eog and evince e.g... (Okular and
gwenview work fine).
Can you start an xterm on remote machine?
