Follow-up Comment #38, bug #55268 (project octave):

@Rik: I think consistently using framebufferobjects when operating on
invisible opengl contexts is a good thing. Furthermore, I ran a modified
dump_plot_demos (with invisible figures and "-painter" option) and didn't see
any issue. 

I attached a patch that takes care of your concerns but still applies to all
OS.
