Follow-up Comment #38, bug #57635 (project octave): A first throw at reinstalling old binary installers shows that one from Sep 16 2019 works fine, while another one from Sep 23 2019 has the bug. (Hmmm I expected it was an old bug; but so old ...) (I used the trick of opening two files in the editor, clicking in one and then closing it ==> other file (tab) has no visible cursor. Both done in Windows7 and Windows 10, just to be sure.) Looking at the log there aren't that many candidates.
