Follow-up Comment #9, bug #58641 (project octave): @bmoody: Thanks for the test. It looks like it should be straight forward to make this a configure test. @jwe: Is having that as a configure test what we want? Do we have an options file or something similar for liboctave to keep track of such a setting? Maybe an environment variable to overwrite whatever the configure test would suggest? I remember that we needed something similar for the interpreter to store the mfile encoding to be able to correctly parse the startup files (bug #57235).
