Follow-up Comment #15, bug #59628 (project octave):

The segfault I saw (on the development branch) had the same root cause as
reported in the OP. I checked with GDB and compared the backtrace with the OP.
Now, the problem seems to be fixed also for me.

I cannot speak for the other topic as reported in comment #6 and comment #5. I
was never able to reproduce this on the default branch (i haven't checked on
stable).
