Follow-up Comment #11, bug #59164 (project octave):

Oh, now I understand. The distinction between command and function is not only
whether it uses parentheses but also whether there is an output variable. So
even if it uses parentheses without an output variable, it will trigger an
error for non-ecisting directories. Is my understanding correct?
