Follow-up Comment #34, bug #61994 (project octave):

I cannot recreate that crash either. Neither when building the documentation
nor when running that command in the build tree nor with `make JOBS=10
hg-octave-dist`. It doesn't seem to matter if I unset `DISPLAY` or not (i.e.,
using "qt" or "gnuplot" as the graphics toolkit).

Maybe, the best way forward to not delay Octave 7 longer than necessary is to
revert that changeset like you suggested and check if that prevents those
crashes from happening. (At least until we understand why this is happening.)
