[Octave-bug-tracker] [bug #63437] Null pointer dereference in file-edito

From: Nicholas Jankowski
Subject: [Octave-bug-tracker] [bug #63437] Null pointer dereference in file-editor-tab.cc
Date: Tue, 29 Nov 2022 07:31:17 -0500 (EST)

Follow-up Comment #7, bug #63437 (project octave):

Re: comment #1, "I'm wondering whether it is possible that this code (or
something similar) could be the reason that people report that Octave no
longer starts for them?"

Are you referring to the cases where deleting octave-gui.ini fixes the
problem? Several of those users have reported that after deleting or renaming
octave-gui.ini, octave successfully starts, and continues to start even if
they copy back the old, supposedly corrupt, octave-gui.ini. If the issue was a
file tab issue in the editor, I would think it would persist in such a case
and recreate the problem. Unless restoring the default octave-gui.ini caused
some other change outside of that ini file...
