did you try deleting the octave-gui.ini file mentioned in previous comments?
Would one of you be able to follow the instructions at

Under Octave does not start/ Collecting gdb backtrace information / if Octave
is immediately crashing and closing
To get a gdb trace of the crash, and the man save the output to a text file
and upload it here?
