No, no one used that back then.

Novell's Netware was what actually in use at the time, pretty much
everywhere you could find DOS.  Netware 3.12 was about the best, so look
for that.  However, whether that is available (legally) or whether it
even works within Qemu is another matter.  The FreeDOS wiki might have
more information on DOS networking:
