[Savannah-hackers] savannah.gnu.org: submission of java website

From: nferrier
Subject: [Savannah-hackers] savannah.gnu.org: submission of java website
Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 18:08:39 +0000

A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

If it already is an official GNU package, it will be approved shortly.
Otherwise it must be discussed on address@hidden for approval.

Nic Ferrier <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: website
Other License:
Package: java website
Unix name: javaweb

This project is required to manage the gnu java webpages (at /software/java/).

The webpages are currently maintained by the webmasters but they don\'t have
the time or the knowledge of GNU\'s java efforts to keep the web pages up to
date.

There are a few things that the web pages don\'t currently do that the project
hopes to rectify quickly:

- make clear the role of Java within GNU
- provide an acceptable package registry for GNU java projects
- describe how to submit java programs to the GNU project
- describe how to submit GPLed java programs for listing on the website

In the long term the project will try to fulfill the aims of the existing pages:
- present the work of various GNU projects which rely on java
- remind people of the political problems of the people of Java
- provide a place for programmers producing GPLed java code to make their code
accessible

It is an aim of this project that we should have representatives from all the
main GNU java projects, eg: classpath, kawa, paperclips, etc... In this way the
java web pages can be the result of agreement within the GNU java hackers.
