[Savannah-hackers] migrating from gnats to RT?

I'm thinking that we may want to move from gnats to RT. There are
details about RT at
http://www.fsck.com/projects/rt
(RT is GPL'd.)

At the very least, RT has the feature that it's probably better
maintained than gnats. The author of RT is also regularily on zephyr
if people actually want to talk to him if we want to have our unique
and special problems get fixed. (Not that any of you seem to be
capable of becoming zephyr addicts, sigh.) Oh, and I've like met him
in person and stuff.

RT uses mysql. We're already running mysql on subversions, so it
might be sane to use the existing mysql installation, and run the web
interface for RT on subversions, and run the mail interface on
fencepost and tunnel the database connections over ssh or something.
(I don't suppose there's any gssapi support in mysql, sigh.)
(And I don't know for sure that RT is set up in such a way that such a
split across machines would Just Work, but I can ask Jesse at some
point.)

(I'm also a bit unclear on whether we might avoid some hassles with RT
if we wait six months for it to mature some more, but then again,
running away from gnats ASAP probably wouldn't be a bad thing either.)

Thoughts?
