A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
Dominique Broeglin <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Educational Information System
System name: eis
This package does NOT want to apply for inclusion in the GNU project
My project, called EIS (Educational Information System) is an attempt to
produce an information system suitable for use in any school or university. The
system should handle all logistic tasks such as students and teacher rosters,
courses catalog, grade books and scheduling.
It will also include a course publication module. This module will allow the
teacher to publish courses and the students to navigate in those courses. The
content presented should automaticaly adapt to the pedagogical needs of the
students.
Other features that will be included, but are not yet under development are :
- Quizzes,
- Online exercises,
- Automatic schedule generation,
- Computer aided course composition.
The application is based on the Java 2 Enterprise Edition framework and uses
XML to handle data. Currently the application uses only a web interface
(Intranet and Extranet) but the framework allows for more sophisticated
interfaces.
It already exists and you can see it at
http://mainline.essi.fr/wiki/bin/view/Eis/ BUT the application and the web site
are still on an early stage of development.
