A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

Andrew Clausen <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: GNU Parted
System name: parted
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

GNU Parted is already part of the GNU Project. I\'m basically
experimenting with setting up on savannah... but I\'m not
ready to migrate yet. Please don\'t alter my access to
gnudist.gnu.org or www.gnu.org that I have that allows me
to modify the ftp site or web pages for Parted. Thanks!

GNU Parted is a program for creating, destroying, resizing, checking and
copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating
space for new operating systems, reorganising disk usage, copying data between
hard disks and disk imaging.

It already exists at:

http://www.gnu.org/software/parted
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/parted

goals:
(1) to promote code-reuse among free file system userland
implementations, and volume management.

(2) to provide compatibility/interoperability with other file
system / volume management systems. (eg: allow GNU/Linux
to be installed on a system with MS Windows). And to make
this EASY!

The entire software is GPL ATM. There might be some components
that should be LGPL in future (which *may* be necessary to
promote standard APIs) There is likely to be lots of debate
in future about this.
