Hello, I replied to your previous e-mail before to see this one :)
(before to check that other reply as well)

As I said, MAPM requires a license change anyway.

Yes, there are some news. I contacted the author of MAPM,
Michael C. Ring, and this was its answer to my mail:

>I just wanted to let you know I received your email
>and will consider a licence change. It will take some
>time to consider all the possibilities. I won't promise
>that I'll change it, but I will investigate other options.

>I will look at the other GPL compatible licences that
>you gave a link to. My actual intention (of my license)
>was so "bad" code could not get out. I have invested
>a lot of time and effort to make the library as usable
>and bug free as possible. Any bad code that gets out
>could damage the good reputation that MAPM now has.

I would like the MAPM author to keep in mind that the GPL requires that any modified version be clearly marked as such; that means that a derived/forked version must be stated clearly as no being the original MAPM, and thus will not damage MAPM's reputation.

It would be good that the MAPM author talks with us at address@hidden before he makes his decision. Licensing issues can be tricky, and we can have legal help from the GPL Compliance Lab. Can you tell him that?

Moreover, I am preparing a new version of Scicalc (the major
change is that the new version will use a more recent version
of my YVY library) and I am seriously considering the possibility
to include an exception to the GPL to allow linking against MAPM.
So, let me know any particular about the exact formulation of the
exception statement.
But this should be a temporary solution. I will decide what doing
with MAPM after the answer from Michael.
Best regards

P.S.: 1) Could you use my new email address (i.e. address@hidden)
in place of the current one ? This would make me more simple reading
and answering to your mails.

It would be easier for me if you used that e-mail address in your "From" or "Reply To" mail field. I use "reply to all" usually without checking the addresses I send mail to. I sent this mail to the new address anyway.

2) It seems that you added my email address to your mailing list. This
is ok but I am receiving now a lot of messages sent to you from all the
countries of the world !!!
My mailbox is always empty ! Could you repair it ?

We only sent a one-time announcement. Then some people replied to that list, and incorrect moderation was done (it seems to be a bug in Mailman). We removed everybody from the list for safety some days ago. You should not have received anything since then. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks a lot

You're welcome.
