Follow-up Comment #2, task #4370 (project administration):

Looks like the web page that confused me is gone. I believe CVS used to be
listed under GNU Software in the Free Software List on www.gnu.org but under
non-gnu on the GNU FTP site. Anyhow, the web page appears to have been
corrected now.

As far as the copyright assignments go, I don't really know. This is another
project I came to late. I think this GNU/non-GNU confusion led some people to
send copyright assignments on their own. I'm not sure what led Mark Baushke,
one of three currently active CVS maintainers, to send his assignments, but he
didn't communicate with the other CVS maintainers until after the fact, as far
as I know, unless perhaps he sent his assignments years ago, through previous
maintainers of the project.

I'm not sure what the implications of just removing the FSF Copyright notices
from files is, as we did on Texi2HTML. I would assume that past contributors
at least thought their contributions were being given away to the FSF.
Maintainers were at least fairly clear that any code submitted to
address@hidden was being released under the GNU GPL, though I'm not sure what
legal standing that would have.

For now, I guess as long as the contributors still have their names in the
AUTHORS file, and the AUTHORS file is mentioned in the notices, this may be
sufficient after removal of the FSF copyright notices? *Are* you asking us to
remove the FSF Copyright notices, as happened with Texi2HTML?

As for the missing license and copyright notices, I've added license notices
to the files but left the copyrights off until I've seen the results of this
discussion.

Mark, Larry, the name `ccvs' was already taken in the CVS repository on
Savannah. Do either of you have any preferences for `cccvs', `-cvs', `CCVS'
(I presume the server is on a case-sensitive file system), or have any other
suggestions?
