This is weird, because in the tetex distribution at least, they seem to
be implemented very similarly:

[stewie/usr/share/texmf]$ find | grep txexa
./fonts/tfm/public/tx/txexa.tfm
./fonts/type1/public/tx/txexa.pfb
./fonts/afm/public/tx/txexa.afm
./tex/latex/txfonts/utxexa.fd
[stewie/usr/share/texmf]$ find | grep rtxptmr
./fonts/tfm/public/tx/rtxptmr.tfm
./fonts/tfm/public/tx/rtxptmri.tfm
./fonts/tfm/public/tx/rtxptmro.tfm
[stewie/usr/share/texmf]$

Oh well, I'll take what I can get.
