Without actually trying it, it looks like the xemacs syntax may be close
to working on gnu emacs.  Maybe it would help someone some day.  The
defadvice isn't applied if the xemacs isn't selected, so it should do no
harm.  I think you could apply my fix, then think about commenting out
the lot :).
