You are absolutely right. It was quite late last night, so at some
point I just started making the apropriate casts.
I'll change it in my patch (see attachment).
I specifically used the BAD_CAST macro to make it easier to find these
specific casts.
Feel free to do any more cleanups that make sense to you.
