Of course it works now ;-)

I think I understand what's going on with the findlib thing: the 
configure file was modified instead of the configure.in file. Using 
autoconf solves the version detection problem, but then OCAMLFIND is not 
defined anymore.

So we need to choose: do we hack the configure directly, or do we use 
configure.in ?
