I started using python 4 years ago and could write codes in a week by just
reading the on-line tutorial..

We just moved to cons. But I'm very excited looking forward to scon if it
can really work well for multi-threads and is written in python.

I think you'll find that Python is much easier to learn than Perl.
I say this as someone who's been a Perl devotee for years, and still is.
Python's easy learning curve is one of the language's greatest strengths.
Check the tutorial at http://www.python.org/doc/current/tut/tut.html (it
also comes with the distros). You really can learn basic Python in an
afternoon.
