X11 libs in "wrong" place on Solaris?

While looking in the archives, I found this thread, which is exactly my current 
problem:

Contrary to the theories put forth in the thread, I think that the compilation 
fails because most X installations place the libraries in an X11 subdir under 
the lib, but openwin does not. Has anyone else ever encountered this on 
Solaris? Is there a solution short of creating an X11 subdir and softlinking 
all the libraries into it?
