Looks like you're missing M4. Try:

sudo apt-get install autotools-dev automake autoconf

For reference, here's what I'm seeing.

Vincenzo,

I see. You have to create the ./configure file in mpir with ./autogen.sh

So it's really these steps:

git clone git://github.com/wbhart/mpir.git mpir

cd mpir

./autogen.sh

./configure

make

sudo make install

sudo ldconfig

You don't need mpir. The dependency can be resolved with gmp instead.

sudo apt-get install libgmp10 libgmp-dev
