Seaside also has some really nice integration with Scriptaculous, which makes it easy to produce shiny-looking web apps. Is there any equivalent for GSWeb?

SOPE has a few constructs (eg page fragment reloads) which integrate with Prototype. Possibly those could be reused with gstep-web:
  http://svn.opengroupware.org/SOPE/trunk/sope-appserver/WEPrototype/
  http://sope.opengroupware.org/

BTW: I'm not perfectly sure whether Prototype/Scriptaculous wrappers are actually needed. Its pretty straight forward to use them directly ...

Greets,

PS: getting started with SOPE is probably not easier than with gstep- web (http://svn.opengroupware.org/SOPE/trunk/sope-appserver/samples/ is the best we provide ;-)
