I've searched a bit and found

which suggests that the property gtk-im-module is the default input
method unless the user explicitly chose another im-module from the IM
context menu.

❯ gtk-query-settings | grep im-module
                      gtk-im-module: "wayland"

So it seems I'm using the wayland input method module.
