Dont worry about unbuntu, just try upgrade scons (a version from 2004 is far too old). 0.97, the one I have, works fine (so by the looks of it, its a scons error, not a platform error).

Can anyone help?

P.S.  By the way, this is the scons version that comes with Ubuntu
6.06 LTS ("Dapper Drake").  I have no plans to upgrade my Ubuntu any
time in 2007.
