I think this is bad because that ID is silently used in logs. People
will set the id and forget it, and then they may end up with an
archive full of GoodStuff[tm] with anonymized log messages. I think
it's a good idea to have something that is not a real email address
possible, but it should be something that does identify that user.
I would suggest a UI of the form
tla my-id --generate-from-name Stephen Turnbull
-> "Stephen Turnbull" <address@hidden>
"generated" is a literal. There are some bizarrely named dot-coms
out there, GGGG.com might be mistaken for a real address! (Not to
mention it used to be possible to have a kanji domain somehow, UTF-7,
maybe? That would look random to most Americans.)
