Also, I'm not talking about removing existing functionality from tla.

I think it's reasonable to ask that if you'd like to _remove_ (or
change) functionality, that you give concrete examples of how existing
uses of that functionality can be done in a different way.

[Not to me, mind you -- I don't personally care all that much about
permission bits, at least so far.]
