I did this inside one version of the experimental Debian packages because
I agree in principle with you (and I'm in the same situation as you that
I'm not a GNUmed user myself).  The GNUmed authors recommended to not to
do so because the decision about which PostgreSQL server / port to use is
hard to be automated.  I'm not fully convinced but followed their advise
for the moment and leave the bootstrapping to the user.
