Not many I would think, but libtool receives patches if we make a
release that breaks support.  The evidence will be in the list
archives, but is hard to find when you don't remember the name of
the thread or author :-(

Agreed.  However, I think future releases of automake shouldn't force
people to upgrade their other tools at the same time.  This is a
criticism that has been levelled at autotools in the past.  Our users
are much happier if they can upgrade one piece at a time.
