Well, a useful ability to write single notes in sequence with chords is
pretty essential for accordion music, but it is not like it would be
untypical for piano ragtime or waltzes either. And not having to switch
modes but rather being able to decide on a note-per-note basis how one
wants to spell out things certainly is an advantage.
There definitely is use for a hybrid mode. There is just the question
how to fit it into LilyPond best.
