My copy is less emphatic about this.  Let's set the percussion parts for
the "New World" symphony!  Here LilyPond has to read all the notes for
every part in the orchestra, to generate cues for a few well-timed
cymbal crashes, so that scanning time has its maximum effect on
execution time.

I find I also need to disallow numbers after underscores, so no
"violin_01", but then it does avoid the need for backup tables.

I guess the rule-of-0s would be too inconvenient to be appreciated,
though.
