Indeed it is, Aaron! Thank you!

I have to admit the disposition, or not, of braces confuses me. Seems like they are optional in some places, and not in others, such as here. Is there a rule behind when they are needed?

Is this what you were intending?

%%%%
\version "2.22"

portamento =
#(define-music-function
   (start end) (ly:music? ly:music?)
   #{
   \afterGrace { #start \glissando } #end
   #})

tune = \relative c'' {
   r2 \portamento g2 g'8 |
}

\score {
   <<
     \new Staff \tune
   >>
}
%%%%
